Some of you may already be aware, I am extremely honored to be National Oilwell Varco's (NOV) Team Captain for the Susan G. Komen - Race for the Cure again for 2017! Again, this is a HUGE accomplishment for me, because of the passion I have for the Susan G. Komen foundation.
I have been actively involved with the Susan G. Komen foundation for several years. I become involved when I was initiated as a Zeta Tau Alpha at Texas Tech University in 2009. Susan G. Komen was our philanthropy, and together, my sisters and I brought awareness to fellow students, volunteered during various fundraising events and attended the race annually.
I have a sincere family/friend that was diagnosed with breast cancer in October of 2012. She underwent 26 weeks of chemo, surgery and six weeks of radiation. To this day, she is still undergoing physical therapy at MD Anderson as a result from the radation. She is an extremely strong woman and I look up to her in so many ways. She is one of the reasons why this organization touches my heart in so many ways. Our co-workers, moms, sisters, friends, daughters, etc. will be affected in one way or another by this disease (1 in every 8 women), but with our efforts, we can help find a cure.
The Komen Houston Race for the Cure® raises money to fund education, screening and treatment programs in our community and supports national cutting-edge research in hopes of finding the cures. In addition, the Race celebrates breast cancer survivorship and honors those who have lost their battle with the disease.
*Special thanks to my husband, family, friends and NOV team for your support!
